Researcher, Applied Research & Equitable Evaluation
Rachel’s work focuses on using a data-informed, evidence-based, and inclusive process of decision making to address persistent inequities in education. She is passionate about helping schools utilize research and data to inform their policies and practices. She enjoys working on collaborative projects that address key issues in education, such as the achievement gap, disciplinary disparities, bullying, and mental health. She loves engaging with the entire research process, from identifying the research questions to designing the methodology, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating results through reports and presentations. Most of all, she enjoys integrating findings into policy and practice to help create a more equitable educational environment.
Before joining Educational Northwest, Rachel worked as a graduate research assistant on a research-practice partnership between the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Community School District. She also served as a graduate teaching assistant in sociology and criminology courses at the University of Iowa and worked as a research assistant at an evaluation center. She also has experience working on diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education through her time on university committees. Prior to her professional experience, Rachel’s first jobs were working directly with kids, and she has always loved education and learning. Her range of experiences and passion for youth brought her to Education Northwest where she hopes to improve students’ lives through applied research.
