At work, Bracken is driven by three things: a deep desire to improve public education, particularly for those who are underserved or otherwise alienated from the system; the opportunity to work with incredibly talented, committed, funny, and progressive colleagues; and a passion for engaging with the written word—finding the flow, shaping the form, engaging the audience, and maybe even making it sing once in a while.

Bracken came to Education Northwest on a six-week temp gig and never left. Two decades and counting. He’s reinvented himself multiple times over the years, ultimately finding his way to the happy place—working with words, day in, day out. Other passion projects include serving as an editor and communications consultant for the Native Education team and keeping his hand in on grant proposals.

As a working class kid from the dry side of the Evergreen State—and a product of its public schools and three of its colleges and universities—he remains a passionate believer in the power of education to improve lives, create opportunities, and help address deep systemic inequities.
